EVANGELSCAPE PROJECT
Identifying the spiritual topography of social lifestyle groups in local communities
The Evangelscape Project seeks to identify the spiritual landscape of a specific area of geography. Currently the Evangelscape data provides information regarding the unreached status, and the presence of 5 different spiritual dimensions. The Evangelscape data is available for any of 9 levels of geography within the United States and for each of the 60 MOSAIC lifestyle segments within any of these layers of geography. The geographical layers vary from a very small micro-grid area to the aggregate totals for the entire nation as a whole -- and anything in between. This data is based upon a survey conducted by Simmons Marketing Research Bureau, indexed against the MOSAIC US segmentation, cross-referenced with the Glenmary Study and data from TheAmericanChurch.org, and analyzed by IICM staff. Current year estimates are available.
Unreached Status
The "unreached status" refers to an estimate of the number of households that do not consider themselves to be an evangelical Christian. An evangelical Christian is a person who professes to have accepted Jesus Christ as his or her personal Lord and Savior.
Religious But Not Evangelical
The "religious but not evangelical" category refers to an estimate of the number of households that do not consider themselves to be an evangelical Christian but consider themselves to be a part of some established religion or religious institution. The "religious but not evangelical" person usually is committed to a non-evangelical Christian denomination or some other world religion or religious group.
Spiritual But Not Evangelical
The "spiritual but not religious" category refers to an estimate of the number of households that are interested in spirituality but are not interested in organized religion. This category includes alternative spiritualities and new age movements.
Not Evangelical & Not Interested in Religion or Spirituality
The "Non-Evangelical and Not Interested" category refers to an estimate of the number of households that do not consider themselves to be an evangelical Christian and are not interested in spirituality or religion.
Active Evangelical Presence
The "active evangelical presence" refers to an estimate of the number of households that actively participate in an evangelical church. Active participation is defined as attendance in corporate worship at least one weekend per month.
Inactive Evangelical Presence
The "inactive evangelical presence" refers to an estimate of the number of households that consider themselves to be evangelical but do not actively participate in an evangelical church.
Uses for the Evangelscape
The main objective of the Evangelscape report is to provide missional believers, churches, and church planters with a spiritual barometer with which to measure their community -- comparing and contrasting it with other communities. This tool may be used in the site selection process for a new church plant or for designing community outreach for a local church. A number of our reports include the Evangelscape -- cross-referencing this information with other layers of data such as lifestyle segments, consumer behavior profiles, or demographic data.
Obtaining an EVANGELSCAPE Report
